Add fields to a document
On this page
Fields are the boxes your signers fill in. SignWith has six field types, you draw each one on the document in the editor, and each field belongs to a signing party.
The six field types
| Field | What the signer does |
|---|---|
| Text | Types words, such as a name, company or email address |
| Signature | Draws, types or uploads a signature |
| Initials | Adds their initials |
| Date | Picks a date or uses today's date |
| Number | Types a number |
| Checkbox | Ticks a box |
There is no separate Name, Email or Company field. Use a Text field, and for email addresses set its validation to Email. See How the Text and Number fields work.

Place a field
- In the ADD FIELDS TO YOUR DOCUMENT panel, click a field type, such as Signature.
- The panel shows "Draw a field on the document" and CANCEL.
- Click and drag on the document to draw the box.
- The field appears on the page and in the FIELDS list, named for example "Signature 1".
You can also drag a field type from the panel straight onto the document. Start your drag on an empty part of the page: if you start on top of an existing field, you move that field instead of drawing a new one.

Change, rename or delete a field
- In the FIELDS list, hover over the field's row.
- Three icons appear: a pencil (rename), a gear (settings) and a bin (delete).
- Click the gear to open settings such as Required, Format or Description.
- Click outside the settings box to close it.
Renaming fields, for example "Client name" instead of "Text 1", keeps the list easy to follow. Signature, Initials, Date and Text fields have Copy to All Pages, which places the same field on every page.
