How the Signature and Initials fields work

Updated
On this page

The Signature field collects a signature and the Initials field collects initials. You place both the same way. Signature has a Format setting that controls how the signer may sign; Initials does not.

Signature settings

Click Signature in the panel, draw the box on the signature line, then hover over "Signature 1" in the FIELDS list and click the gear.

  • Format: Any (the signer chooses), Drawn (hand-drawn) or Typed (typed signature).
  • Required: the signer must sign before they can finish.
  • Description: a note about the field.
  • Page 1: shows which page the field is on.
  • Copy to All Pages: places the same field on every page.

If several people sign the same document, add one Signature field per signing party. See Add and rename signing parties.

Initials settings

Click Initials, draw a small box where the initials go, then open its settings with the gear next to "Initials 1".

What the signer sees

The Signature step shows a drawing pad, with TYPE and UPLOAD as other options and CLEAR to start again. The Initials step starts with a box to type initials, with DRAW and UPLOAD as other options. See Sign a document you received.
