How the Date field works
Updated
On this page
The Date field records a date on your document, usually the date of signing. You choose how the date is written. The default format is the US style, 09/27/2026, so change it if you or your signers are outside the US.
Choose a format
- Click Date in the ADD FIELDS TO YOUR DOCUMENT panel.
- Draw a box next to the date line, such as "Date: ______".
- In the FIELDS list, hover over "Date 1" and click the gear.
- Open Format and pick a style.
Using 27 September 2026 as the example:
| Format | Common in |
|---|---|
| 09/27/2026 | United States (default) |
| 27/09/2026 | Australia, UK and much of the world |
| 2026-09-27 | International standard (ISO) |
| 27-09-2026 | |
| 27.09.2026 | Germany and much of Europe |
| Sep 27, 2026 | |
| September 27, 2026 | |
| 27 Sep 2026 | |
| 27 September 2026 |
A written-out month, such as 27 Sep 2026, reads the same way in every country.

What the signer sees
The Date step has a Set Today button that fills in today's date in one click, plus a date picker for a different date. If the signer clicks NEXT with the date empty, the browser asks them to fill it in. See Sign a document you received.
