How the Text and Number fields work
On this page
Text fields collect words, such as a name, company or email address. Number fields collect numbers, such as an amount or a quantity. Both can be pre-filled, made read-only or made optional. Open a field's settings by hovering over it in the FIELDS list and clicking the gear.
Text settings
- Default value: text filled in before the signer sees it.
- Validation: checks what the signer types (see the table below).
- Required: on by default. The signer must fill the field in before finishing.
- Read-only: the signer sees the field but cannot change it. Use it with Default value for details they should not edit.
- Description: a note about the field.
- Page 1 and Copy to All Pages.
Which validation should I use?
| Validation | Use it for |
|---|---|
| None | Anything (default) |
| SSN | US Social Security numbers |
| EIN | US Employer Identification Numbers |
| Email addresses | |
| URL | Website addresses |
| ZIP | US ZIP codes |
| Numbers only | Digits, such as a phone or account number |
| Letters only | Text without digits |
| Custom | Your own rule |
There is no separate Name, Email or Company field. Use a Text field for each, with Email validation for email addresses.
Number settings
- Format: how the number is written, for example 123456789.567.
- Align: where the number sits in the box, such as Left.
- Default value, Required and Read-only, as for Text.
- Description: a note about the field.
- Formula: calculates the value from other fields.
- Page 1: shows which page the field is on.

What the signer sees
Each Text or Number field is one step in the signing card, with a "Type here..." box. The field is outlined on the page, so place it right next to its printed label, such as "Name:", so the signer knows what to type.
