eSign (esign.co.uk) Review 2026: Pricing, Features & Honest Verdict

eSign is a UK e-signature service sold at esign.co.uk by E-Sign (UK) Ltd, a Liverpool company incorporated in 2012. It is not eSign.com, which is a different company. The product used to be called E-Sign, and its app still runs at app.e-sign.co.uk.

In October 2026 its pricing page sells three plans per user, VAT included, from £96 a year, each with a hard monthly envelope cap, plus an Enterprise plan priced by envelope volume.

My eSign review in one line: a UK-built signing tool with strong public-sector credentials, sold in small monthly envelope allowances that you cannot top up, with a support record on Trustpilot that has got worse in 2026.

On this page

eSign review verdict: who it's for and who should skip it

eSign is worth paying for when you work in or for the UK public sector, or in healthcare, legal or conveyancing work.

It has credentials few signing tools have: it says it is the only e-signature provider on the UK government's Public Service Network, it sells through the government's G-Cloud marketplace, and it has products for NHS consent, prescriptions and HM Land Registry witnessing.

It is a weaker fit for a small sender, because every plan is priced per user with a monthly envelope cap and no way to buy more.

Best for: UK councils, NHS trusts, schools and other public bodies; solicitors and conveyancers who need witnessed signatures; teams that need UK data storage and pay in pounds.

Skip if: you send a few documents a month on your own, your volume is uneven, you need the API without an Enterprise contract, or you want an AI assistant to send documents for you.

Here is how users rate eSign on review sites, checked October 2026.

PlatformRatingNumber of reviewsChecked
Trustpilot2.8 / 5112 reviews; Trustpilot counts 10 in the last 12 monthsOctober 2026
G24.7 / 590 reviewsOctober 2026
Capterra4.6 / 536 reviewsOctober 2026

Sources: Trustpilot (listed as eSign.co.uk), G2 (listed as E-Sign) and Capterra (listed as E-Sign, ease of use 4.6, customer service 4.1). Several other signing tools use the name eSign, so check the company name before you read reviews elsewhere.

What users say about eSign, 2018 to 2026

The scores tell different stories. On G2, 75 of the 90 reviews give 5 stars. Trustpilot's star mix for eSign, checked October 2026, is mostly 5-star and 1-star with little in between:

StarsShare of Trustpilot reviews
5-star62%
4-star6%
3-star4%
2-star4%
1-star24%

Many 5-star reviews are short and came in bursts in August 2023 and February 2024. The recent ones are mostly negative: of the 10 Trustpilot reviews posted in 2026, 7 give 1 or 2 stars and 3 give 5 stars. Trustpilot says eSign "Replied to 100% of negative reviews"; its replies are summarized under the quotes.

The quotes below come from Trustpilot, G2 and Capterra, grouped by theme, copied as written, dated and linked. Many G2 and Capterra complaints come from reviewers who still gave 3 or 4 stars, and the cards note the score.

I left out two 1-star reviews about a "free" offer, because eSign replied that it does not advertise free services and that the reviewers may have reviewed the wrong company. Reviews from 2018 to 2024 describe older plans and older versions of the product, so read the date on each card.

Pricing and billing: smaller allowances for the same price

Most billing complaints are about allowances that shrank during a paid year, subscriptions that cannot move to a new person, charges that were hard to stop or get refunded, and a price one Capterra reviewer found higher than a rival's.

“We're going to be binning this company as soon as our subscriptions expire - now been hit with a maximum of 100 envelopes (despite how many licensed user we have) per month on the standard (paid) plan (@£200.00+VAT per year) - absolutely ridiculous...”

His numbers are his own. eSign's pricing page in October 2026 lists Standard at 50 envelopes a month per user, VAT included.

ComplaintLiam FurrTrustpilotMar 2026, edited Jun 2026
“User beware - subscriptions are non-refundable/transferrable, so if you have a member of staff who leaves you will be unable to transfer the subscription over to another member of your team - this is a major issue as far as I am concerned.”

eSign replied that subscription transfers are only available on its Business and Enterprise plans.

“Trying to contact E-Sign to discuss changes which have been made to our account which involved significant changes to the agreed setup, the agreed service and significant price increases without any explanation or communication from E-Sign...”

eSign replied that it emailed customers about the changes at the beginning of the previous year.

ComplaintcustomerTrustpilotMay 2026
“In 2024 we suddenly had our envelope usage slashed in half, when we queried why they told us an email went round (We never received it) explaining they were limiting usage and prices staying the same which meant less service for the same price...”

eSign replied that it introduced caps on its unlimited envelope plans in 2024, reduced the limits in 2025, and honoured his original agreement.

“In 2025 we received communication again that they were going to be reducing the level of service again, but, keeping the prices the same...”

eSign's own reply to John Chambers is the clearest account of what changed: plans that once had unlimited envelopes were capped in 2024, and the caps were cut again in 2025. Its terms of use say "E-Sign may change the Software, services or prices mentioned at any time without notice."

Support: unanswered emails, and praise for helpful staff

Support is where the 2026 reviews are hardest on eSign. The complaints are about emails with no reply, a slow in-app chat and issues left unresolved. The praise, on all three sites, is about helpful staff and quick answers.

“Dreadful company. We have been trying to contact their customer service and sent 5 emails but they have never responded! ...”

She wanted the account moved to a new email address after a colleague left. eSign replied that it could find no earlier correspondence and asked her to email it.

Ease of use: quick to set up, slow for some

Most positive reviews say eSign is easy to learn and quick to set up. The complaints, from 2018 to 2024, are about an interface that isn't always obvious, speed, small file limits and losing work.

“Maximum file sizes are way too small for some full documents. Addition of ".pdf" on the end of all file names is duplicated. Time taken to upload documents is too long. Website regularly crashes during the work day, stopping us from being able to use it.”

Signer experience: blocked uploads, slow pages and too many emails

Signers don't need an eSign account. The complaints are about what happens next: image uploads that stopped working in February 2026, slow multi-document envelopes, one email per document signed, signing emails landing in spam, and signatures that are hard to draw without a mouse.

“Since the 2nd Feb 2026 clients cannot upload files in JPG or PNG format, e-sign response can they not do it as a PDF, what a shocking customer experience imagine asking your client please take a pic of your ID and now please export as PDF before you upload, what a JOKE! ...”

Features, the API, and eSign's missing MCP server

Feature complaints are mostly older and specific: API submissions that failed on a slow network, no Outlook link, one-way cloud storage, a signature format that could not be changed, and a wait for answers about qualified signatures. One Trustpilot reviewer praises the API, and one Capterra reviewer praises its documentation.

“We have requested the support team to remove date and time so people can just sign their name where required like DocuSign which most of banks use you only sign or type in your name.”

What eSign is and its key features

eSign is a browser-based signing service run by E-Sign (UK) Ltd, registered at Companies House as company 07937425, incorporated on February 6, 2012, with its registered office in Liverpool.

You upload a document, place fields, add signers and send it as an envelope. eSign's pricing page says "An envelope can have up to 10 documents inside and be sent to up to 13 recipients."

What eSign offers, per its own pages, checked October 9, 2026:

  • Advanced electronic signatures on every plan. The pricing page says "We offer AeS on all plans. No upgrade needed."
  • UK data storage. The pricing page says all data is stored "exclusively in UK-based, ISO 27001-certified data centres".
  • Sector products. eConsent ("Trusted by the NHS"), Baskets by eSign for prescription management, a 21 CFR Part 11 module, eWitness ("Approved for HM Land Registry documents") and a Digital Certificates product "For high-value or high-risk transactions".
  • Payments and integrations. Payment capture inside a document, and integrations listed for Stripe, PayPal, Square, Xero, QuickBooks, HubSpot, Salesforce, Dynamics 365, SharePoint, Google, Slack, Zapier, monday.com and Pipedrive.
  • SMS checks for signers. SMS verification is on Standard and above, and needs SMS credits, which the Help Centre prices at "100 credits for £10 or 1,000 credits for £60". eWitness also uses SMS credits.

Here is what each plan's card on the pricing page lists, checked October 9, 2026. Each plan includes everything in the plan before it.

PlanEnvelopesWhat the plan card adds
Personal5 a month per userAdvanced electronic signatures, secure storage, basic workflow automations
Standard50 a month per userPayments in the signing flow, reusable templates, SMS signer checks, your own branding
Business75 a month per userElectronic seals, password-protected documents, role-based permissions
EnterpriseAnnual limits, no monthly capsUnlimited users, integrations, bulk send, remote witnessing, web forms, SSO

The API is on Enterprise only: the pricing page's comparison table ticks it for Enterprise alone, and eSign's API page says "API access is included in your enterprise plan".

What eSign does well

eSign's strengths are real, and most of them matter to UK organizations.

  • Public-sector credentials. Its trust centre lists ISO 27001, ISO 9001, Cyber Essentials Plus, Crown Commercial Service provider status and ICO accreditation, and says eSign is "the only electronic signature provider on the Public Service Network".
  • Advanced signatures by default. Every plan, including the £96 Personal plan, includes advanced electronic signatures.
  • UK-specific workflows. Witnessed signing for HM Land Registry documents, NHS consent and prescriptions are products most signing tools don't have.
  • Several documents per envelope. Up to 10 documents count as one envelope, so a contract pack uses one envelope of your allowance.
  • A free trial with no card. The Help Centre offers a "14 day free trial, no credit card details required" on the Business account with 5 envelopes.
  • Signers need no account. Recipients sign from an email link.

eSign pricing in 2026 (checked October 2026)

eSign's pricing page prices everything in pounds, per user, and its FAQ says "our Personal, Standard and Business plans are inclusive of VAT. Enterprise plans are exclusive of VAT."

Here is what the plan cards showed on October 9, 2026, with my dollar conversion at the European Central Bank reference rate of $1.3207 per pound for October 8, 2026; your card or bank will use its own rate.

PlanMonthly billingYearly billingEnvelopes a month, per userYearly price, about USD
Personal£10 a month£96 a year5$127
Standard£32 a month£210 a year50$277
Business£50 a month£330 a year75$436
Enterprise"Contact sales"Priced on envelope volumeAnnual limits, no monthly capsNot published on the page

The same page also shows a second set of prices. Its "Which plan is right for your organisation?" table, checked the same day, lists:

PlanPlan cardsComparison table, same page
Personal£10 a month, £96 a year£10 a month, £96 a year
Standard£32 a month, £210 a year£28 a month, £200 a year
Business£50 a month, £330 a year£45 a month, £320 a year

The annual discount is described three ways on that page: the toggle says "Yearly (Save 45%)", the FAQ says "A 33% discount is applied ... if purchased annually", and Personal's own numbers, £120 down to £96, are a 20% saving.

The FAQ also says sending is available "for just £28 per month", which matches the comparison table, not the card. Ask eSign for the price in writing before you buy.

Enterprise. The pricing page gives no number. eSign's G-Cloud 15 pricing document on the UK government's Digital Marketplace, dated November 11, 2025, lists Enterprise at "FROM £2,800 annually" for 2,000 envelopes and 20 users, "FROM £5,975" for 5,000 envelopes and "FROM £11,475" for 10,000, all "exclusive of VAT". Above 10,000 envelopes a year, "pricing begins at £0.88 per envelope". The same document lists Business at £320 a year or £45 a month.

A few rules from eSign's own pages, checked October 9, 2026:

  • No extra envelopes. The Help Centre says "we don't offer the option to purchase additional envelopes on our Personal, Standard, or Business plans" and points you to an upgrade.
  • No rollover. The terms of use say "unused envelopes don't carry over to the next month. The monthly limit resets on the date your subscription was originally purchased. This excludes the Enterprise plan."
  • Upgrades are charged in full. The upgrade article says "Currently we do not offer an option to pay the difference for a new eSign account. You will be required to purchase a new licence and will be charged the full amount for the new licence."
  • Team members on the trial count. The pricing FAQ says you are "charged for the number of team members that are active" when you enter payment details.
  • No free plan. The FAQ says "Currently, eSign does not offer a free option for sending and signing documents."
  • Cancelling. The FAQ says you can cancel "at any time. Simply get in touch with a member of our team".

Where eSign falls short

The weak points are about the shape of the plans and getting help. Each one below comes from eSign's own pages, checked October 9, 2026, except points 6 and 7, which come from reviewers.

  1. Hard monthly caps. Personal stops at 5 envelopes a month. You can't buy more, and you can't carry unused ones forward.
  2. Upgrades cost the full price. Moving up a plan mid-term means a new licence at full price, not the difference.
  3. Priced per user. Every person who sends needs their own licence, and each gets their own monthly allowance.
  4. Two price lists on one page. The plan cards and the comparison table disagree for Standard and Business, and the page gives three different annual discounts.
  5. The API needs Enterprise. eSign's API page says "API access is included in your enterprise plan", and Enterprise starts at £2,800 plus VAT a year on the G-Cloud price list.
  6. Allowances cut on existing accounts. Reviewers in 2025 and 2026 describe envelope limits and prices that changed on accounts they were already paying for, one of them mid-contract.
  7. Support that doesn't answer. 6 of the 7 low-rated 2026 reviews on Trustpilot complain about unanswered emails, calls or chats.
  8. No MCP server. I found no MCP server, and no mention of one, on eSign's pricing page, API page, Help Centre or trust centre.
  9. A HIPAA row that is not about HIPAA. The compliance table's HIPAA row repeats the ESIGN row's text word for word, "Relevant for any organisation operating across UK-US jurisdictions. All eSign signatures meet ESIGN requirements".

What a year of eSign costs at 5, 10 and 25 documents a month

For one sender, a year of eSign costs about $127 at 5 documents a month and $277 at 10 or 25, on yearly billing with the cheapest plan that fits. The table counts one document as one envelope, uses eSign's card prices checked October 9, 2026, VAT included, and converts at $1.3207 per pound (ECB, October 8, 2026):

Volume, one senderPlan that fits1 year, yearly billing1 year, monthly billing3 years, yearly billingPer document, yearly billing
5 a month (60 a year)Personal, exactly at its cap£96 (about $127)£120 (about $158)£288 (about $380)£1.60
10 a month (120 a year)Standard, 50 a month£210 (about $277)£384 (about $507)£630 (about $832)£1.75
25 a month (300 a year)Standard, 50 a month£210 (about $277)£384 (about $507)£630 (about $832)£0.70

At 5 a month, Personal leaves no room: a sixth envelope in a month means waiting for the monthly reset or upgrading to Standard at full price.

On the comparison table's prices, Standard would be £200 a year or £28 a month. If you bundle several documents into one envelope, your real cost per document falls. For how these numbers sit in the market, see what e-signature software actually costs.

Which eSign plan fits you

Match the plan to how many envelopes each sender needs in a month, not a year, because nothing carries over.

The tree in words:

  1. Need the API, SSO, bulk send or more than 75 envelopes a month per sender: talk to eSign sales about Enterprise.
  2. Any sender who could pass 5 envelopes in a month, or needs templates: Standard, or Business for seals and ownership transfer.
  3. Otherwise, Personal.

Is eSign secure and legally binding?

eSign's pricing page says every plan meets eIDAS at the advanced electronic signature level, and that "All eSign signatures meet ESIGN requirements". Its trust centre lists ISO 27001 and ISO 9001 certification, Cyber Essentials Plus, Crown Commercial Service provider status and ICO accreditation.

SOC 2 is not on the trust centre. eSign's API page says documents "are stored in UK data centres with SOC 2 Type II certification", which describes the data centres, not an eSign audit. I found no HIPAA statement from eSign beyond the copied row described above (checked October 9, 2026).

How I reviewed eSign

Through running a freelancing agency and then a consulting agency, and working around a lot of freelancers, consultants and the people we serve, my team and I have gathered information about eSign. For this review I also read eSign's own pages and what its users wrote from 2018 to 2026, and checked everything again on October 9, 2026:

  • Vendor pages: the pricing page with its plan cards, comparison table and FAQ, the Help Centre FAQs, the upgrade article, the terms of use, the trust centre, the API developer portal page, and eSign's G-Cloud 15 pricing document on the UK Digital Marketplace.
  • Company records: Companies House, for E-SIGN (UK) LIMITED.
  • Review platforms: Trustpilot reviews dated 2022 to 2026, including the 1, 2 and 3-star reviews; the lowest-rated and newest G2 reviews, dated 2018 to 2026; and the lowest-rated and newest Capterra reviews, dated 2019 to 2026.
  • Forums, social and stores: I found no Reddit thread, Hacker News discussion or public X or LinkedIn post with a first-hand eSign review. I found no eSign app from this company on the App Store or Google Play.
  • Exchange rate: the European Central Bank reference rate for October 8, 2026, $1.3207 per pound.

Who should skip eSign, and what to use instead

Keep eSign if:

  • you work in or for the UK public sector and need a supplier on the Public Service Network and G-Cloud
  • you need HM Land Registry witnessing, NHS consent or prescription workflows, or a 21 CFR Part 11 module
  • you need templates, payment capture or SMS signer checks today

If your organization needs those UK public-sector and sector-specific tools, go with eSign; if you just need your business documents signed without paying for those extras, use SignWith.

Skip eSign if you are one or two people who want a simple way to get a document signed, a few times a month and unevenly, without a monthly cap or a per-user plan. That is who we built SignWith for.

SignWith has no seats and no subscription. You buy credits, and a credit is used only when a document is signed. Every signed document uses one of your free monthly documents or a credit, including one that only you sign, and a declined, voided or expired document uses none.

  • Upload a PDF, JPEG or PNG, add signature, date, text and checkbox fields, and set the signing order.
  • Your recipients sign in the browser on any device, with no account.
  • Every completed document comes with a Certificate of Completion that records timestamps, IP addresses, device and browser details and email events, sealed with a SHA-256 hash.

Assumes 10 signed documents a month for 12 months (120 documents), one sender, one document per envelope. Personal's 5-envelope cap is too low, so Standard is the cheapest plan that fits: £210 a year on eSign's plan card, VAT included, converted at $1.3207 per pound (ECB, October 8, 2026). The same page's comparison table shows £200. eSign does not publish USD prices.Source: eSign pricing page, ECB reference rate, October 8, 2026, SignWith pricing. Checked Oct 2026

Here is the same year at all three volumes. eSign prices checked October 9, 2026 in GBP, VAT included, and converted at $1.3207 per pound; SignWith's free monthly documents continue after you buy packs.

VolumeeSign, 1 year, about USDSignWith, 1 year
5 a month$127 (Personal, £96)3 free a month cover 36 documents; one Pro pack covers the other 24 for $19
10 a month$277 (Standard, £210)84 paid documents: one Business, one Pro and one Basic pack, $29 plus $19 plus $9
25 a month$277 (Standard, £210)264 paid documents: the Lifetime Deal at $149 one-time, cheaper than buying packs

At today's prices and exchange rate that saves about $108 (85%) at 5 a month, $220 (79%) at 10 and $128 (46%) at 25, in the first year. Over 3 years, eSign comes to about $380 at 5 a month and $832 at 10 or 25, against the Lifetime Deal at $149 one-time, once.

eSign's API is Enterprise only, from £2,800 plus VAT a year on its G-Cloud price list, and eSign has no MCP server, so you can't connect an AI assistant to it. SignWith takes a different route:

  • An API and an MCP server on every account. SignWith has a REST API and an MCP server for AI assistants such as Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor and VS Code, so your own code or your assistant can send documents for signature.
  • The same credits as the app. No subscription, no developer plan, 3 free documents a month, then you buy credits, and a credit is used only when a document is signed.
  • The same fit. The API doesn't change who SignWith suits: a UK public body, NHS team or conveyancing firm may still be better off on eSign.

SignWith templates, reminders, bulk send, team accounts and integrations are coming soon, so if you need any of those today, eSign is the better buy. SignWith is used by 1,000+ businesses, and you can start free with no card.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Is eSign (esign.co.uk) the same as eSign.com?

No. eSign at esign.co.uk is run by E-Sign (UK) Ltd, a Liverpool company incorporated in 2012 and formerly branded E-Sign. eSign.com is a different company. Check the company name before you read reviews or app listings.

Does eSign have a free plan?

No. eSign's pricing FAQ says "eSign does not offer a free option for sending and signing documents". Its Help Centre offers a 14-day free trial with no card, on the Business account with 5 envelopes (checked October 9, 2026).

Can I buy more envelopes on eSign?

Not on Personal, Standard or Business. The Help Centre says eSign doesn't offer the option to purchase additional envelopes on those plans and suggests upgrading. An upgrade is charged at the full price of the new licence, not the difference (checked October 9, 2026).

Do unused eSign envelopes roll over?

No. eSign's terms of use say unused envelopes don't carry over to the next month and the monthly limit resets on the date you first bought your subscription. Enterprise uses annual limits instead.

Are eSign prices VAT included?

Yes for Personal, Standard and Business, per eSign's pricing FAQ. Enterprise prices are exclusive of VAT. Note that the pricing page shows two sets of prices for Standard and Business: £32 and £50 a month on the plan cards, £28 and £45 in the comparison table (checked October 9, 2026).

Does eSign have an API or an MCP server?

eSign has a REST API with OAuth 2.0, webhooks and a sandbox, and its API page says API access is included in the Enterprise plan, which starts at £2,800 plus VAT a year on its G-Cloud price list. I found no MCP server for AI assistants on eSign's pages (checked October 9, 2026).

Does eSign offer qualified electronic signatures?

Every eSign plan includes advanced electronic signatures. eSign also sells a separate Digital Certificates product for high-value or high-risk transactions. Ask eSign in writing which signature level that gives you before you buy.
