Foxit eSign Review 2026: Pricing, Features & Honest Verdict
Foxit eSign review: $120 a year for 250 envelopes, a 5-seat jump to Business, what G2, Capterra, Trustpilot and app store users say, and who should skip it.
Foxit eSign costs $120 a year for one person and 250 envelopes, and that is a fair price until you need envelope 251. Foxit's own June 2024 blog says Essentials users "cannot add more licenses or envelopes", and the next plan, Business, starts at 5 licenses, or $1,500 a year (checked October 2026).
My Foxit eSign review in one line: a capable, DocuSign-like signing tool that is cheap for one steady sender under 250 envelopes a year and for teams of five or more, with an expensive gap in between and a pricing page that contradicts itself.
On this page
Foxit eSign review verdict: who it's for and who should skip it
Foxit eSign is worth paying for when one person sends a steady 10 to 20 envelopes a month, when you already pay for Foxit PDF Editor+, or when a team of five or more needs unlimited envelopes, HIPAA, SSO or bulk signing at $300 a seat.
It is poor value when you sign a handful of documents a month, unevenly, because you pay for the whole year either way, and when one person outgrows 250 envelopes, because the next step costs $1,500.
Best for: solo senders with steady volume under 250 envelopes a year; Foxit PDF Editor+ owners who need up to 150 envelopes a year; teams of five or more that want unlimited envelopes, branding, web forms, Foxit Pay and compliance options on Business.
Skip if: you sign fewer than about 5 documents a month, your volume swings, you send more than 250 a year on your own, or you want to pay month to month.
Here is how users rate Foxit eSign on review sites, checked October 2026.
| Platform | Rating | Number of reviews or ratings | Checked |
|---|---|---|---|
| G2 | 4.6 / 5 | 1,487 reviews | October 2026 |
| Capterra (same reviews on Software Advice) | 4.7 / 5 | 698 reviews | October 2026 |
| Trustpilot, all Foxit products | 3.1 / 5 | 222 reviews | October 2026 |
| Google Play, Foxit eSign app | 2.9 / 5 | 134 reviews | October 2026 |
| Apple App Store, Foxit eSign app | 3.3 / 5 | 14 ratings | October 2026 |
Sources: G2, Capterra, Trustpilot, the Google Play listing and the App Store listing. Trustpilot rates the whole company, mostly Foxit PDF Editor, not eSign alone.
What users say about Foxit eSign, 2019 to 2026
The scores split by where people write. G2 and Capterra reviewers mostly write about the web app and rate the product highly. Most app store complaints are about a mobile app that crashes, and the Trustpilot complaints quoted below are about Foxit's billing and support across all its products.
The rating split by platform
Below, the reviews are grouped by theme, complaints in full and a few positives. Every quote is copied as written, dated and linked to where it was posted, from 2019 to 2026. Trustpilot rates Foxit as a whole company, so I say when a reviewer is writing about Foxit PDF Editor rather than eSign.
The G2 reviews dated September 2026 carry G2's "Incentivized" and "Seller invite" labels. Capterra's newest Foxit eSign review is from September 2025, so the Capterra quotes are older.
Pricing and billing: annual terms sold as monthly
The most common money complaint in these Trustpilot reviews is the same one other e-signature vendors get: a plan paid monthly turns out to be a year. The Trustpilot reviews are about Foxit's subscriptions in general.
“Very deceptive in their subscriptions. Make you sign for a full year with monthly payments. Dumbest thing I have ever seen. Support refuses to refund it.”
Foxit replied on June 4, 2026 that its "annual plans are clearly labeled throughout the purchase process".
“I was told that I could not cancel because the subscription was for a one-year term. However, I do not believe this was clearly explained when I signed up.”
About a Foxit business subscription.
“I then found out that my "monthly" subscription is actually a yearly subscription that's paid monthly so I couldn't cancel it. Stuck with a program I don't want.”
“We were surprised to see our subscription cost nearly double in the latest billing cycle.”
An architecture office writing about Foxit PDF Editor.
“Your payment and payment renewal process is extremely difficult.”
“A very good PDF alternative that is let down by a prehistoric renew and support process.”
“Their product is phenomenal. I love it so much more than Adobe. The cost is prohibitive for my small business, though.”
“They are the cheapest option for esign capability, but there's apparently a good reason for that.”
From a 0 out of 5 review.
“Foxit eSign is about $0.60/envelope, without an enterprise agreement.”
The thread's original poster, who replaced Acrobat Pro and DocuSign with Foxit.
“I think it would have been a harder sell for us if it didn't include the eSign envelopes.”
The same poster, on the envelopes bundled with Foxit's PDF editor.
The reviewer's $0.60 is their own figure. On today's prices, Essentials works out to $0.48 an envelope only if you use all 250.
Support: slow replies, and refunds after a fight
Support complaints run from 2021 to 2026 and cover email round trips, phone waits and refunds. Two Trustpilot reviewers in 2026 praise a quick answer and a refund.
“Support took a long time to answer questions. The email support round trip was often more than 12 hours.”
From a 4 out of 5 review.
“Customer service is hardly available, phone waits are outrageously long.”
A 1 out of 5 review titled "Issue with renewal, customer service and follow up procedures".
“Customer service is disorganised, lacks communication within themselves, follow ups are ambiguous even though we give approval on the solutions of our issues.”
The same reviewer, under Cons.
“The one negative that I've had was any time I've needed to work with your customer support team, it's often that I'm waiting most of the day, or even the next day before I get a response to an e-mail.”
“Sales - note this was from before the merger with Foxit, but we tried renewing with eSign Genie and were unable to get any sort of contact form their sales rep.”
“I had an even worst experience with their customer service trying to rectify this. They absolutely refuse to provide refunds so it's a sunk cost.”
After a signing problem on mobile, quoted under signer experience below.
“TL/DR: Buy something else. Foxit is an ok product when the features work. But their Support is slow, contradictory and ultimately not interested in solving problems.”
About Foxit PDF Editor. The reviewer later added that Foxit refunded them after refusing several times.
“I have never been able to access the account. i cant reset passwords or anything nothing works and you cant get ahold of anyone. I need to cancel. Ive paid 2 years for nothing.”
“Yeah no for me. I have not been impressed with their support or licensing.”
Writing about Foxit's PDF editor licensing.
“I reached out to support for a simple question and their automated system gave me an answer in 2 seconds that worked.”
“I contacted Foxit Support regarding the unexpected charge, and their support team was very helpful and responsive.”
About a Foxit charge through Google Play, which was refunded.
Ease of use: easy on the web, crashing on the phone
Web app reviewers mostly find Foxit eSign easy, with complaints about speed and a complex design. The mobile app is another story: most Google Play and App Store complaints are about crashes, failed logins or an app that won't open.
“Has become slow and time consuming. Most docs requiring e-sign don't need authentication, they just want to see the sign.”
A 0.5 out of 5 review titled "From good to bad".
“The design was complex and overwhelming.”
“The biggest thing is it isn't as user-friendly.”
“Absolutely useless! Why can't I access the template library. You basically can't send anything.”
“Doesn't work. I love the desktop app, but the phone one just crashes and is useless.”
“This sucks.....it keeps crashing. Had to delete it.”
“It never opens, shuts down automatically after signing up.”
“Keeps rebooting app, not free use”
“Sign in is a nightmare. Errors whenever you try to create account. Fix.”
“Uninstalled within 5 minutes! Absolutely the worst buggy app I've used, within the app it kept constantly asking me if I wanted to download the app and directing me to play store.”
“Keeps telling me to "Please Check Network"”
A 1-star review titled "App no longer working".
“Just crashes and won’t open.”
“I really like how user-friendly Foxit eSign is. The system's ability to create templates with many fillable fields saves me a lot of time.”
“It's not Adobe! Licensing is easier and they're eager to earn your business.”
“Honestly, after googling a signature service I stumbled upon Foxit Esign and it is super rare to say how great and easy Esign is.”
“Not only all the features in the browser now have been implemented on the app, but the speed of the app is fast!”
A 5-star review of the redesigned app, titled "Wow, new app is great!"
Signer experience: easy for most, hard on phones for some
The people signing mostly get an easy job. The complaints are about signing on phones and, from one 2019 reviewer, slow loading.
“Do not invest your money in this company or product. The interface is not user friendly on mobile, and the signature process is arduous.”
“The only small issue sometimes is the speed - I've had a few clients say that it is sometimes slow to load, but it's infrequent...”
“We use foxit. Works well enough but they won’t use the sign feature. Still say we need Docusign.”
About colleagues who kept DocuSign for signing.
“Plus, it allows my clients to sign documents easily from their phones without needing a printer.”
“Everything gets sent automatically and we are notified when they are filled out.”
Features, the API and MCP
Feature complaints are about eSign stopping working inside a paid bundle, authentication and missing reminders in the mobile app. The praise is about how closely it matches DocuSign.
“My FoxIt Esign has stopped working twice in the 3 months I have had it. The first time, the system told me I did not have esign, only pdf reader, however I had purchased the bundle with esign included. It took FoxIt 3 days to fix it.”
From a 0 out of 5 review. Foxit replied and apologized.
“Now, 2 months later, it is broken again, and I'm having to use a different esign service free trial while they fix it because I need esigning to run my business.”
The same review, next sentence.
“I used to like the free old version, but since the upgrade to the special service, Foxit eSign doesn't really work. It stopped working several months ago, and I think the problem is with the authentication that doesn't work properly.”
From a 0.5 out of 5 review. Foxit replied that it looked like an account or authentication issue and that "Foxit eSign has always been a paid service".
“can't send reminders for eSign. not sure what the point of this is when you can't manage eSign docs you send”
“Intuitive to use, I regret however that the signature feature is not included into my paid version”
About a paid Foxit PDF product without eSign.
“The eSign platform is like a carbon copy of Docusign.”
“We haven't found a missing feature yet that we had with Docusign.”
The same comment.
I found no user reviews about Foxit's eSign API or about an MCP server on G2, Capterra, Software Advice, Trustpilot, the app stores or Reddit. Foxit eSign has no MCP server of its own, which the API section below covers.
What is Foxit eSign, and why do so many people already own it?
Foxit eSign is the e-signature service from Foxit, the PDF software company. It was called eSign Genie before Foxit took it over, and older Capterra reviews still use that name. You upload a document, place fields, send it as an envelope and track it until it is signed.
Many people own it without buying it on its own. Foxit's PDF Editor pricing page says PDF Editor+ ($159.99 per user a year) includes "Foxit eSign with 150 envelopes/year", while the plain PDF Editor ($129.99) does not include eSign envelopes (checked October 2026).
Here is what each eSign plan includes, per Foxit's plan comparison, checked October 2026:
| Feature | Essentials | Business |
|---|---|---|
| Price | $120 per user a year | $300 per user a year |
| Minimum | 1 license | 5 licenses |
| Envelopes | 250 a year | Unlimited |
| Templates | 10 | Unlimited |
| Multi-document envelopes, audit trail, mobile app | Yes | Yes |
| Custom branding, signable web forms, Foxit Pay | No | Yes |
| Teams, Dynamics, WordPress and Zapier | No | Yes |
| Bulk sending | Within the 250 | Unlimited |
| Bulk signing, in-person signing, offline mode | No | Yes |
| KBA, Qualified eSignatures, SSO | No | Yes |
| User management and admin console | No | Yes |
| Foxit Connectors and on-demand notary | Extra cost | Extra cost |
Foxit's store adds that an Essentials license is "assigned to 1 dedicated user. Cannot be reassigned."
This April 2026 video from George Vlasyev compares Foxit eSign with DocuSign on sending limits, costs for individuals and teams, and integrations. The channel uses affiliate links.
What Foxit eSign does well
Foxit eSign has real strengths.
- It covers what DocuSign covers. An IT admin who replaced DocuSign with Foxit wrote in February 2026 that they "haven't found a missing feature yet". Templates, multi-document envelopes, bulk sending, audit trails and 16 languages come on Essentials.
- Business is cheap for a team that sends a lot. $300 a seat a year for unlimited envelopes, against DocuSign Standard's 100 envelopes per user a year (see our DocuSign review).
- It comes with the PDF editor. PDF Editor+ owners get 150 envelopes a year at no extra cost.
- A 14-day free trial of Essentials, with no credit card, per the pricing page.
Compliance is tiered. Foxit's pricing table lists SOC 2 Type 2 on both plans, and HIPAA compliance, CFR Part 11, KBA, Qualified eSignatures and SSO on Business only (checked October 2026). The Trust Center also lists SOC 2 (Type 2) for eSign.
Foxit eSign pricing in 2026 (checked October 2026)
Foxit sells eSign by the user, by the year. Here is what the pricing page and the store listed on October 6, 2026, before tax:
| Plan | Price | Envelopes | Templates | Users |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| eSign Essentials | $120 per user a year | 250 a year | 10 | 1 dedicated user |
| eSign Business | $300 per user a year | Unlimited | Unlimited | 5 licenses minimum ($1,500) |
| Volume Licensing | Custom | Custom | Custom | 16 or more licenses |
| PDF Editor+ (bundle) | $159.99 per user a year | 150 a year | Not stated | 1 user |
The rest of the terms, from the same pages:
- No monthly eSign price. The eSign pricing page and the store show yearly prices only.
- Add-ons cost extra. Foxit Connectors and on-demand notary are marked "($)" on both plans, with no price shown.
- Volume discounts are available on Business, per the pricing page.

What happens when you hit 250 envelopes?
You stop sending. Foxit's June 20, 2024 blog post says: "eSign Essentials users cannot add more licenses or envelopes; however, they now have the option to transition to higher-tier plans if their needs exceed the provided quota." I found no option to buy extra envelopes on today's pricing page or store.
The higher tier is Business, and its 5-license minimum means $1,500 a year. For one person, envelope 251 costs $1,380 more than the first 250 did. Foxit does not say whether a voided or declined envelope counts toward the 250.
Where Foxit eSign falls short, from its own pages, checked October 2026:
- A hard cap on Essentials. 250 envelopes a year, no top-ups, and the license can't be moved to someone else.
- A 5-seat jump. One person who needs envelope 251, or branding, web forms or bulk signing, pays for five seats.
- Yearly prices only. No monthly eSign plan is published, and Trustpilot reviewers describe annual terms they could not cancel.
- Contradictions on the pricing page. "No transaction limits" in the FAQ, 250 envelopes on the card.
- A weak mobile app. 2.9 out of 5 on Google Play and 3.3 on the App Store, with most complaints about crashes.
Is Foxit's free eSign tool legally binding?
No, by Foxit's own words. The pricing FAQ says "Foxit offers a free eSign solution that allows users to sign documents electronically at no cost." The free tool on Foxit's eSign page carries this notice: "Signatures collected using this free tool are not legally binding or compliant with eSigning standards."
For legally binding signatures you need a paid plan: the Essentials card on the pricing page lists "Legally binding eSignatures", and its 14-day trial needs no credit card.
Does Foxit eSign have an API or an MCP server?
It has an API, sold separately. Foxit's API pricing page (checked October 2026) lists:
- Developer: free, 500 shared credits a year, with "eSign API - Trial Access. Time-limited trial access. Documents include a watermark."
- Startup: $1,750 a year for 5,000 credits.
- Business: $4,500 a year for 15,000 credits.
"One envelope uses 5 credits, flat", so Startup covers 1,000 envelopes a year. Billing is annual, credits reset at renewal, and when they run out "API calls that require credits stop processing".
Foxit eSign has no MCP server. Foxit runs an MCP server for its PDF Services, but its developer blog of May 6, 2026 says "Foxit’s eSign API and DocGen API are separate REST services that are not part of the MCP Server". An AI assistant can't send a Foxit eSign envelope over MCP.
What a year of Foxit eSign costs at 5, 10 and 25 documents a month
At real small-business volumes, one sender pays $120 a year for Foxit eSign until the 250-envelope cap, then $1,500. The table uses the cheapest plan that covers each volume, at prices checked October 2026 on Foxit's pricing page and store, before tax:
| Volume, one sender | Cheapest Foxit plan that fits | 1 year | 3 years | Per envelope |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 5 a month (60 a year) | Essentials | $120 | $360 | $2.00 |
| 10 a month (120 a year) | Essentials | $120 | $360 | $1.00 |
| 25 a month (300 a year) | Business, 5 licenses (Essentials caps at 250) | $1,500 | $4,500 | $5.00 |
If you already pay for PDF Editor+, its 150 envelopes a year cover the first two rows at no extra cost. These totals assume every envelope is signed the first time.
Which Foxit eSign plan fits you
Match the plan to who sends and how many envelopes you need in a year.
| You are | Plan | Why |
|---|---|---|
| A Foxit PDF Editor+ owner sending up to 150 a year | Nothing extra | 150 envelopes a year are included |
| One person sending up to 250 a year | Essentials, $120 a year | The only single-user plan; 10 templates |
| One person sending more than 250 a year | Business, $1,500 a year minimum | Essentials can't add envelopes |
| A team of five or more | Business, $300 per user a year | Unlimited envelopes, branding, web forms, admin console |
| A team that needs HIPAA, KBA, Qualified eSignatures or SSO | Business | Those are Business only |
| A developer embedding signing in an app | API, from $1,750 a year | Separate plan, 5 credits per envelope |
| One person signing a few documents a month, unevenly | Probably not Foxit eSign | You pay for the year either way; see the last section |

- Otherwise Essentials covers you, and if you sign only now and then, consider skipping Foxit eSign.
How I reviewed Foxit eSign
I and my team have used Foxit eSign. For this review I also read Foxit eSign's own pages and what its users wrote from 2019 to 2026, and checked everything again on October 6, 2026:
- Vendor pages: the eSign pricing page and FAQ, the store, the PDF Editor pricing page, the eSign page with the free tool, the API pricing page, the Trust Center, the June 20, 2024 blog post on Essentials and the May 6, 2026 developer blog on Foxit's MCP server.
- Review platforms: G2, Capterra, Software Advice, Trustpilot, Google Play and the App Store, reviews dated 2019 to 2026. I found no Product Hunt reviews page for Foxit eSign.
- Forums: the r/sysadmin thread from February 2026, the only Reddit discussion of Foxit eSign I found. I found no Hacker News posts about it.
Who should skip Foxit eSign, and what to use instead
Keep Foxit eSign if you already own PDF Editor+, send a steady volume under 250 a year, or run a team of five or more. If your business needs HIPAA, go with Foxit eSign Business; if you just need your business documents signed without paying extra for that, use SignWith.
Skip Foxit eSign if you are one or two people who want a simple way to get a document signed, a few times a month and unevenly, with no yearly plan and no envelope cap to watch. That is who we built SignWith for.
SignWith has no seats and no subscription. You buy credits, and a credit is used only when a document is signed. Every signed document uses one of your free monthly documents or a credit, including one that only you sign, and a declined, voided or expired document uses none.
- Upload a PDF, JPEG or PNG, add signature, date, text and checkbox fields, and set the signing order.
- Your recipients sign in the browser on any device, with no account.
- Every completed document comes with a Certificate of Completion that records timestamps, IP addresses, device and browser details and email events, sealed with a SHA-256 hash.
10 signed documents a month for a year, one sender
- SignWith, cheapest packs84 paid documents: 1 x Basic + 1 x Pro + 1 x Business$57
- SignWith Lifetime Dealone-time, unlimited credits$149
- Foxit eSign Essentials, one user$120 per year$120
Here is the same year, side by side, at all three volumes. Foxit prices checked October 2026; SignWith prices render from our pricing data, and the free monthly documents continue after you buy packs.
| Volume | Foxit eSign, 1 year | SignWith, 1 year |
|---|---|---|
| 5 a month | $120 (Essentials) | 3 free a month cover 36 documents; one Pro pack covers the other 24 for $19 |
| 10 a month | $120 (Essentials) | 84 paid documents: one Business, one Pro and one Basic pack, $29 plus $19 plus $9 |
| 25 a month | $1,500 (Business, 5 licenses) | 264 paid documents: the Lifetime Deal at $149 one-time, cheaper than buying packs |
At today's prices that saves $101 (84%) at 5 a month, $63 (53%) at 10 and $1,351 (90%) at 25, in the first year. Over 3 years, Foxit eSign comes to $360, $360 and $4,500 at those volumes, against the Lifetime Deal at $149 one-time, once.
Foxit eSign gets cheaper per envelope as you send more, up to its cap. From about 20 documents a month, Essentials costs less than SignWith credit packs in the first year, though the Lifetime Deal costs less from the second year on.
Foxit sells its eSign API as a separate developer plan, from $1,750 a year at 5 credits per envelope. Foxit eSign has no MCP server: Foxit's MCP server covers PDF tasks only, so an assistant can't send a Foxit eSign envelope through it (checked October 2026). SignWith takes a different route:
- An API and an MCP server on every account. SignWith has a REST API and an MCP server for AI assistants such as Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor and VS Code, so your own code or your assistant can send documents for signature.
- The same credits as the app. No subscription, no developer plan, 3 free documents a month, then you buy credits, and a credit is used only when a document is signed.
SignWith templates, bulk send, reminders, team accounts and integrations are coming soon, so if you need any of those today, Foxit eSign is the better buy. SignWith is used by 1,000+ businesses, and you can start free with no card.
No subscription. You buy credits, and a credit is used only when a document is signed. One credit covers one signed document, however many people sign it.
- Unlimited credits
- Never expires
- One-time payment

Frequently asked questions
Is Foxit eSign free?
- Not for legally binding signatures. Foxit has a free signing tool, but its own notice says "Signatures collected using this free tool are not legally binding or compliant with eSigning standards." Paid plans start at $120 per user a year for eSign Essentials, with a 14-day free trial and no credit card (checked October 2026).
How many envelopes do I get with Foxit eSign Essentials?
- 250 a year, with 10 templates, for one dedicated user. Foxit's June 2024 blog says Essentials users "cannot add more licenses or envelopes" and can move to a higher plan instead. Business has unlimited envelopes at $300 per user a year, with a 5-license minimum (checked October 2026).
Can I pay for Foxit eSign monthly?
- Foxit publishes yearly eSign prices only: $120 per user a year for Essentials and $300 for Business. Trustpilot reviewers in 2026 describe Foxit plans paid monthly that turned out to be a one-year term, so check the term before you buy (checked October 2026).
Is Foxit eSign included in Foxit PDF Editor?
- In PDF Editor+, yes: Foxit's pricing page says PDF Editor+ ($159.99 per user a year) includes "Foxit eSign with 150 envelopes/year". The plain PDF Editor ($129.99 a year) does not include eSign envelopes (checked October 2026).
Does Foxit eSign have an API or an MCP server?
- It has an API on separate developer plans: a free trial tier with watermarked documents, then $1,750 a year for 5,000 credits, at 5 credits per envelope. It has no MCP server for eSign: Foxit's May 6, 2026 developer blog says its eSign API is not part of its MCP Server (checked October 2026).
Does Foxit eSign support HIPAA?
- Only on Business. Foxit's pricing table marks HIPAA Compliance on eSign Business, not Essentials, and Business needs at least 5 licenses ($1,500 a year). SOC 2 Type 2 is listed on both plans (checked October 2026). Confirm the terms with Foxit in writing before you send health information.
E-signature rules vary by country, state and document type, so check with a legal professional that an e-signature suits your specific agreement before you rely on it.
