Box Sign Review 2026: Pricing, Features & Honest Verdict
Box Sign review: 5 free requests a month, 15 on Personal Pro, then a 3-seat Business plan. Prices checked October 2026, 2026 user reviews, who should skip it.
Box Sign is free for 5 signature requests a month, and unlimited once you pay for Box Business. The catch sits between those two: one person who sends more than 15 documents a month has to buy a Business plan with a 3-user minimum, which is $540 a year (checked October 2026).
My Box Sign review in one line: it is a good signing tool if your files already live in Box and your company already pays for Box Business. It is a poor buy for one person who only needs signatures, because Box does not sell Box Sign on its own.

Box Sign review verdict: who it's for and who should skip it
Box Sign is worth using when you already pay for Box Business or above, because signing is included and the web app sends unlimited requests. It is poor value when you would buy Box only to sign documents, because past 15 requests a month the cheapest plan that covers one person is a 3-seat Business plan.
Best for: teams of 3 or more already on Box Business or above, whose contracts and forms already sit in Box folders; companies that need Box's Salesforce, Workday or Slack integrations; organizations that need the compliance profile of Box Enterprise.
Skip if: you are one person sending more than 15 documents a month, you don't need Box storage, or you need knowledge-based signer authentication, which Box told one user it does not offer.
Here is how users rate Box Sign and Box on review sites, checked October 2026. Only the first row is about Box Sign; the other three cover Box as a whole.
| Platform and listing | Rating | Number of reviews | What it covers |
|---|---|---|---|
| G2, "Box Sign" listing | 4.6 / 5 | 1,582 | Box Sign, as G2 labels it |
| G2, "Box" listing | 4.2 / 5 | 5,254 | Box as a whole platform |
| Capterra, "Box" listing | 4.4 / 5 | 5,652 | Box as a whole platform |
| Trustpilot, box.com | 1.2 / 5 | 296 | Box as a whole company |

What users say about Box Sign in 2026
Box Sign reviews are hard to find, and the ratings above explain why. G2's Box Sign listing shows 4.6 from 1,582 reviews, but its description still names SignRequest and it shows $7 and $12 plans that are not on Box's pricing page.
Only three of those reviews are dated 2026, and G2 marks two of the three as not included in G2 scores.
Who is being rated: Box Sign or Box?
So I looked for what Box Sign users wrote this year. Most of it is in the Box Community forum, where people post when something goes wrong. Below, quotes are grouped by theme, Box Sign first; where a quote is about Box as a whole, the caption says so. Every quote is from 2026, copied as written and linked.
“I like how simple Box Sign is to use. It's very easy to upload documents, add signature fields, and with the latest update of the signature layouts, it's even easier.”
“The signing process is simple and practical. Adding signature fields and sending documents does not take much effort, and patients can review and sign without confusion.”
“When I click “Send Request”, it appears to start the process but then the request is not submitted.”
“When I download the signed document it’s just the original without signatures...”
“I would say the flexibility of managing templates. Having more advanced editing options or the ability to duplicate and quickly adjust templates would save time, especially when handling similar documents...”

Pricing and billing: mostly about Box as a whole
One 2026 Capterra reviewer who uses Box Sign calls the price "great for what it does". The billing complaints I found are about Box subscriptions in general, so read them as that. Trustpilot shows that Box "Hasn't replied to negative reviews" (checked October 2026).
“Box sign is integrated into the system I currently use. I can draft and share the document right from the system and it will track when it was views, opened and signed for audit purposes. Price is great for what it does.”
In a 5-star review of Box on Capterra, titled "Box- Streamline the way you complete e-signatures".
“Do not provide your credit card information to this company. I canceled my account on 3/29 and received confirmation of the cancellation on the screen. However, I was charged again on 4/29, and when I checked, my account had been reactivated without my consent. Customer service refused to issue a refund. This experience was highly concerning and felt fraudulent. I do not recommend this company.”
About a Box account, not Box Sign.
“Our refund request was denied, and our requests for escalation were also declined. We received the same response citing the annual renewal policy, with no indication that our specific circumstances had been reviewed...”
About an annual Box subscription that kept renewing, not Box Sign.
“Canceling this product is extremely difficult. They do not do refunds. I personally hit an error message after clicking through several required cancellation screens.”
About a Box subscription, not Box Sign.
“Update: after several emails and an escalation, I’m happy to report that I finally received a refund. Felt like a miracle.”
The same reviewer's update, two weeks later.
The money question for Box Sign is not a surprise bill. It is the plan you have to buy to send more than 15 requests a month, covered in the pricing section below.
Support: help pages and replies
One Box Sign user found the help pages no help. Box community managers answered several of the forum threads quoted here, most within a few days, while others show no reply. The harsher support complaints on Trustpilot are about Box as a whole.
“The help files are no help to find a solution to this.”
Looking for the signed document, not just the signing log. A Box community manager replied four days later with where to find it.
“I am extremely frustrated with Box.com. The customer service is absolutely abysmal, making it incredibly difficult to get a resolution when things go wrong.”
About Box as a whole.
“Every contact with their support is like throwing a ticket into a black hole. They only come with answers that are besides the point.”
About Box accounts after his organization left Box, not Box Sign.
“We are ditching BOX after 12 years for our team of 10. It used to work quite well. Well enough to stick with it anyway. But over time technincal issues have crept in and we have discovered that customer service is simply non existent unless you are on a very expensive plan...”
About Box as a whole.
Ease of use: simple to send, slower to learn
The 2026 G2 reviewers all call Box Sign easy, and two of them add that some options took time to learn. One forum user says preparing each request by hand is the slow part.
“I like how simple Box Sign is to use. It's very easy to upload documents, add signature fields, and with the latest update of the signature layouts, it's even easier.”
“Use box sign to secure , process and track and send a verity of documents. And very easy to use without prior knowledge”
“Some options took time to explore and not user friendly until once understood in and out”
The same reviewer's dislike.
“Since I am still getting familiar with the tool, some options take a little time to explore at first.”
“The most time-consuming part is manually determining who needs to sign and then creating all of the signature fields every single time.”
Asking whether Box Sign can pick signers and place fields automatically.
Signer experience: easy to sign, harder to get the file
One G2 reviewer praises the signing itself, and Box's Box Sign page says signers need "no Box account". Two of the 2026 complaints come after signing: getting the signed file out of Box.
“The signing process is simple and practical. Adding signature fields and sending documents does not take much effort, and patients can review and sign without confusion.”
“When I download the signed document it’s just the original without signatures. It shows the signature activity on the right side and the signatures are there when viewing it on box.com. It just simply downloads the original, unedited version instead.”
After signing on an iPad in the Box app.
“What happens is that an EMPTY zip called mybox-selected.zip gets downloaded and nothing else. Tried both on Firefox and Chrome.”
A signer downloading the documents he had signed.
“Using Box sign to get pdfs signed by team members, the web app inbox shows number of requests in progress “Inbox (1)” however the iOS version does not show the same notification in the app inbox.”
“Don’t see in box where I can enter my job title and company so I don’t have to enter in new each time when I sign a document in Box Sign.”
Features, the API and Box's MCP server
Feature requests and failures make up most of the 2026 forum posts. Two stand out: requests that fail without an error, and the Box Sign API not being available on the Starter plan.
“When I click “Send Request”, it appears to start the process but then the request is not submitted.”
A Box community manager replied that information barriers or a watermarked file or folder can make Box Sign "silently prevent the request from being sent".
“I would like to request for signature scopes. I have the starter plan, but do not see it in my app configuration.”
Box's limits table lists no API signature requests on Business Starter.
“Is there a way to enable KBA for signatures with Box Sign? I have to send IRS documents for signature and in order to do so electronically, I have to use KBA.”
A Box community manager replied: "Box Sign does not offer KBA at this time."
“I can’t tell if the issue is something on my end in how I set it up, or if the problem is Box.”
About a Box Automate workflow with a signature step that kept failing.
“Second, my completed documents no longer have _signed at the end of my document names. Now when I download, they have identical names as the original unsigned drafts that I uploaded to Box for processing. Why was this removed?”
“Not too many things to improve. I would say the flexibility of managing templates. Having more advanced editing options or the ability to duplicate and quickly adjust templates would save time, especially when handling similar documents. Also, when we add a document with the same name, it renames the latest document with a (1) but when we try to find the first draft to eliminate it seems a bit difficult to do.”
In a 5-star review.
“The automated reminders could use some work and I find once I send a document it is hard to make an edit if I need. I would delete and re-send”
The same Capterra reviewer's cons.
“When it happens I must remove these users manually after I get notified of the new unauthorized addition to the managed user count.”
Staff at his company who received Box Sign requests from outside were added as managed users. A Box community manager pointed him to the auto-enrollment setting.
I found no 2026 user review about Box's MCP server. Box runs an official, hosted MCP server that lets AI assistants such as Claude, Microsoft Copilot Studio and Mistral Le Chat search and use Box files, once an admin turns it on.
Box's own list of its tools, checked October 5, 2026, covers files and folders, search, collaboration, Box AI, Hubs and Doc Gen. It has no Box Sign tool, so an assistant connected through it cannot send or track a signature request.
What Box Sign is and its key features
Box Sign is the e-signature feature built into Box, the cloud content platform. You open a file stored in Box, place fields, add signers and send, and the signed document and its signing log are saved back to a Box folder. Box does not sell Box Sign on its own.
Every Box plan, including the free one, includes these Box Sign basics, per Box's support article checked October 2026:
- Sign and send, or request signatures, with standard, pre-filled and read-only fields.
- Notifications, reminders, a real-time audit trail and custom expiration dates.
- Signing order, sequential or parallel, and multi-document packages.
- Signer verification by email, and signing on the web app and mobile devices.
Here is what unlocks on which plan, from the same support article:
| Box Sign feature | Lowest Box plan that includes it |
|---|---|
| Templates, SMS signer verification, password-protected documents, in-person signing | Personal Pro |
| Admin user controls, shared signature requests | Business Starter |
| Unlimited requests from the web app, custom branding, text field validation, Sign-Relay integration, API requests | Business |
| Signer attachments, recipient groups | Enterprise |
| Batch send, conditional fields, ready-sign links, signer verification by Box login | Enterprise Plus |
| CAC/PIV smart card authentication | Paid add-on, Enterprise Plus and up |
The same article lists support for 21 CFR Part 11 signatures on Enterprise Plus and Enterprise Advanced, and notes that it requires GxP Validation.
What Box Sign does well
Box Sign's strengths come from living inside Box.
- No export step. You sign files where they already are, and the signed copy lands back in Box. Ishan S. on G2 likes that clinic forms "can be reused easily without preparing them again".
- Signers need no account. Box's Box Sign page says signers can sign on desktop or mobile with "no Box account required", and that Box Sign "works with 40+ file types".
- Unlimited requests on Business and up. Box's Box Sign page says that on "any Box plan (Business or above), you can send unlimited signature requests from the Box web app."
- Integrations. The same page lists signing through Salesforce, Workday, Slack Workflow Builder, NetSuite, HubSpot and others.
- A free plan that really works. 5 requests a month, with reminders, signing order and an audit trail, for $0.
Compliance comes from Box, not from Box Sign alone. Box's Box Sign page says it "inherits the Box security and compliance profile, including HIPAA, SOC, ISO, and FedRAMP." Box's pricing page lists "FedRAMP Moderate, HIPAA, SOC 1/2/3 compliance support" on Enterprise and Enterprise Plus, and SOC 1/2/3 on Business and Business Plus (checked October 2026).
Box Sign pricing in 2026 (checked October 2026)
Box Sign is priced as the Box plan you need. Box's pricing page shows a Monthly or Annually toggle ("Save 25%"). Here is what it listed on October 5, 2026, in US dollars, with Box Sign limits from Box's support article:
| Box plan | Billed annually | Billed monthly | Users | Box Sign requests from the web app | Box Sign requests through API and integrations |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Individual | Free | Free | 1 | 5 a month | None |
| Personal Pro | $10 a month | $14 a month | 1 | 15 a month | None |
| Business Starter | $5 per user a month | $7 per user a month | 3 minimum | 10 per user a month | None |
| Business | $15 per user a month | $20 per user a month | 3 minimum | Unlimited | 100 a year |
| Business Plus | $25 per user a month | $33 per user a month | 3 minimum | Unlimited | 150 a year |
| Enterprise | $35 per user a month | $47 per user a month | 3 minimum | Unlimited | 250 a year |
| Enterprise Plus | $50 per user a month | Not shown | 3 minimum | Unlimited | 1,000 a year custom, unlimited third-party |
Enterprise Advanced is sold through "Buy now" or "Contact us" with no price shown. Box describes the free Individual plan as "for personal use" and Business Starter as "for up to 10 users". The API and integration counts are per customer per year, and Box's support article says more can be bought through the "Box Sign API Add-On Pack".

Where Box Sign falls short
The weak points are in how Box Sign is packaged. Each one below comes from Box's own pages, checked October 2026, or from the forum posts quoted above.
- There is no Box Sign-only plan. You buy a Box plan, storage and all, to get more signature requests.
- The jump after 15 a month. Personal Pro stops at 15 requests a month. Business Starter allows 10 per user a month. The next step for one sender is Business, with a 3-user minimum.
- "Unlimited" means the web app. Requests sent through the API and integrations are capped: 100 a year on Business, 150 on Business Plus and 250 on Enterprise. Personal plans and Business Starter get none.
- Useful features sit high up. Templates and SMS verification need Personal Pro; batch send and conditional fields need Enterprise Plus.
- No knowledge-based authentication. A Box community manager told one user in January 2026 that "Box Sign does not offer KBA at this time."
- Failures without errors. A request can fail to send with no message when a file or folder is watermarked or an information barrier applies, per a Box community manager in June 2026.
What a year of Box Sign costs at 5, 10 and 25 documents a month
One sender pays $0, $120 or $540 a year for Box Sign at these volumes, on the cheapest Box plan that covers each, billed annually. Prices checked October 2026 on Box's pricing page and support article, before tax.
| Volume, one sender | Cheapest Box plan that fits | 1 year | 3 years | Per document |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 5 a month (60 a year) | Individual, free, which caps at exactly 5 | $0 | $0 | $0 |
| 10 a month (120 a year) | Personal Pro, $10 a month billed annually | $120 | $360 | $1.00 |
| 25 a month (300 a year) | Business, $15 per user a month, 3-user minimum | $540 | $1,620 | $1.80 |
Billed monthly, the same plans cost $168 a year for Personal Pro and $720 a year for Business with 3 users. At 25 a month, one sender on Business pays for two seats nobody uses. Business Starter doesn't help, because each user sends at most 10 a month.
Which Box plan fits you for Box Sign
Match the plan to how many requests you send and whether you need Box storage anyway.
| You are | Box plan | Why |
|---|---|---|
| One person sending up to 5 a month, for personal use | Individual, free | 5 requests a month; no templates or SMS verification |
| One person sending up to 15 a month | Personal Pro, $120 a year | Templates, SMS verification and in-person signing |
| A team of 3 or more, each sending up to 10 a month | Business Starter, $180 a year at 3 users | 10 per user a month, admin controls |
| A team of 3 or more sending more, or needing branding or the API | Business, $540 a year at 3 users | Unlimited in the web app, 100 API requests a year |
| A team that needs batch send or conditional fields | Enterprise Plus, $50 per user a month | Those features start here |
| One person sending more than 15 a month who doesn't need Box storage | Probably not Box Sign | You would pay for three seats; see the last section |

How I reviewed Box Sign
I and my team have used Box Sign. For this review I also read Box Sign's own pages and what its users wrote in 2026, and checked everything again on October 5, 2026:
- Vendor pages: Box's pricing page (Individuals and Businesses tabs), the Box Sign product page, the support article on Box Sign features by plan, and Box's developer docs for its MCP server and its list of tools.
- Review platforms: G2's Box Sign listing (three reviews dated 2026) and its Box listing, Capterra's Box listing and Trustpilot's box.com page.
- Forums: Box Community threads about Box Sign from January to August 2026. On Reddit, the 2026 threads I found mention Box Sign only in passing, so none are quoted.
Who should skip Box Sign, and what to use instead
Keep Box Sign if you already pay for Box Business or above, or if your team lives in Box folders and Salesforce or Workday. If your business needs HIPAA or FedRAMP Moderate support, go with Box Enterprise, per Box's pricing page; if you just need your business documents signed without paying extra for that, use SignWith.
Skip Box Sign if you are one person who sends more than 5 documents a month, doesn't need Box storage, and doesn't want a subscription. That is who we built SignWith for.
SignWith has no seats and no subscription. You buy credits, and a credit is used only when a document is signed. Every signed document uses one of your free monthly documents or a credit, including one that only you sign, and a declined, voided or expired document uses none.
- Upload a PDF, JPEG or PNG, add signature, date, text and checkbox fields, and set the signing order.
- Your recipients sign in the browser on any device, with no account.
- Every completed document comes with a Certificate of Completion that records timestamps, IP addresses, device and browser details and email events, sealed with a SHA-256 hash.
25 signed documents a month for a year, one sender
- SignWith Lifetime Dealone-time, unlimited credits$149
- SignWith Lifetime Dealone-time, unlimited credits$149
- Box Sign Box Business, 3-user minimum, billed annually$15 per seat month, 3 seats$540
Here is the same year, side by side, at all three volumes. Box prices checked October 2026; SignWith prices render from our pricing data, and the free monthly documents continue after you buy packs.
| Volume | Box Sign, 1 year | SignWith, 1 year |
|---|---|---|
| 5 a month | $0 (Individual, free) | 3 free a month cover 36 documents; one Pro pack covers the other 24 for $19 |
| 10 a month | $120 (Personal Pro) | 84 paid documents: one Business, one Pro and one Basic pack, $29 plus $19 plus $9 |
| 25 a month | $540 (Business, 3 users) | 264 paid documents: the Lifetime Deal at $149 one-time, cheaper than buying packs |
At 5 a month, Box Sign wins: the free Individual plan costs nothing, as long as your use fits "personal use". At 10 a month SignWith saves $63 in the first year, and at 25 a month $391 (72%).
Over 3 years, Box comes to $360 and $1,620 at those two volumes, against the Lifetime Deal at $149 one-time, once.
Box Sign's API needs a Business plan or higher and is capped at 100 requests a year on Business, and Box's MCP server has no Box Sign tool (checked October 2026). SignWith takes a different route:
- An API and an MCP server on every account. SignWith has a REST API and an MCP server for AI assistants such as Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor and VS Code, so your own code or your assistant can send documents for signature.
- The same credits as the app. No subscription, no developer plan, 3 free documents a month, then you buy credits, and a credit is used only when a document is signed.
- The same fit. The API doesn't change who SignWith suits: a team already on Box Business, or one that needs Box's compliance tiers, should stay with Box Sign.
SignWith templates, bulk send, reminders, team accounts and integrations are coming soon, so if you need any of those today, Box Sign on a Box plan is the better buy. SignWith is used by 1,000+ businesses, and you can start free with no card.
No subscription. You buy credits, and a credit is used only when a document is signed. One credit covers one signed document, however many people sign it.
- Unlimited credits
- Never expires
- One-time payment
