Good to know

A signature image is not the same as an e-signature

The PNG you make here is a picture of your signature. It is handy for email footers, letters and documents you sign yourself. When a signature needs to hold up later, what matters is the record around it: who signed, when, from where, and proof that nobody changed the file afterwards.

Signature image

  • Pasted into a file by you
  • No record of who placed it
  • Good for email footers and letters

E-signature in SignWith

  • Signers verify their identity with a one-time passcode sent to their email.
  • Every completed document comes with a Certificate of Completion that records timestamps, IP addresses, device and browser details and email events, sealed with a SHA-256 hash.
FAQ

Frequently asked questions

How do I create an electronic signature for free?

Draw your signature on the pad above with a mouse, finger or stylus, or switch to Type and pick a handwriting style. Press Download PNG. It is free, needs no account and adds no watermark, so you can create as many as you like.

Is an electronic signature the same as a digital signature?

Not quite. An electronic signature is any electronic mark that shows you agree, such as a drawn or typed signature. A digital signature is a specific kind that uses a certificate and encryption to prove the file was not changed. People often use the two terms for the same thing. See digital signature vs electronic signature.

Can I create a digital signature online here?

This tool creates the visible part: an image of your signature to place on documents. It does not issue a certificate-based digital signature. To collect signatures with a record of who signed and when, send the document with SignWith.

How do I draw a signature that looks natural?

Sign at your normal speed rather than slowly. The pen gets thinner on fast strokes and heavier on slow ones, like real ink. On a phone, turn it sideways for more room, and use Undo to redo a single stroke.

What format is the download?

A PNG with a transparent background at four times screen resolution, trimmed to your signature. Use "PNG on white" for apps that show transparency as black.

Is my signature uploaded or stored?

No. Everything happens in your browser. Your signature is not sent to or stored on our servers.

How do I add my signature to a PDF?

Open the PDF in an editor that can insert images, such as Preview on a Mac or Adobe Acrobat, insert the PNG and resize it over the signature line. To sign and send in one step, upload the PDF to SignWith instead. See how to electronically sign a PDF.

Is a signature image legally valid?

Many laws accept electronic signatures, but an image pasted into a file does not show who placed it or when. For agreements that may need to hold up later, use an e-signature service that records the signer and the signing event.
