How it works

How to fill a PDF form online

  1. 1

    Add your PDF form

Drop the PDF on the page. Every form field shows up as a box right where it sits on the page.

  2. 2

    Fill in the fields

Type your answers, tick boxes and pick options. Answers already in the PDF are kept.

  3. 3

    Download the filled form

Download it as a standard PDF. Lock the answers first if you are sending it to someone.

Private by design

Your file never leaves your device

Most online PDF tools upload your document to their servers and promise to delete it later. This one opens and edits the file inside your browser with the open-source pdf.js and pdf-lib libraries, so there is nothing to upload and nothing to delete.

Check it yourself: once this page has loaded, turn off your Wi-Fi. The tool keeps working.

This free tool

  • No upload, no account
  • No watermark, no daily limit
  • For documents you prepare yourself

When others need to sign

  • Signers verify their identity with a one-time passcode sent to their email.
  • Every completed document comes with a Certificate of Completion that records timestamps, IP addresses, device and browser details and email events, sealed with a SHA-256 hash.
FAQ

Frequently asked questions

How do I fill out a PDF form online for free?

Add the PDF above. Its form fields appear as boxes on the page: type in the text fields, tick the checkboxes and pick from the dropdowns, then press Download filled PDF. There is no account, watermark or page limit.

Is my form uploaded anywhere?

No. Forms often hold your address, tax ID or bank details, so this tool opens and fills the PDF inside your browser and never sends it to our servers. Once the page has loaded you can turn off your Wi-Fi and it still works.

Why are there no boxes to type in?

The PDF has no form fields. It may be a scan, or a form saved as a flat image. You can still place text and dates anywhere on it with Add Date to PDF.

Should I lock my answers?

Tick Lock answers (flatten) when you send the form to someone else, so the answers cannot be changed and look the same in every PDF reader. Leave it unticked if you want to edit the form again later.

Does it work with IRS and government forms?

Most fillable government PDFs use standard form fields and work here. A few older forms are built as XFA forms; the tool tells you when it finds one, and some readers only show those in Adobe Acrobat Reader.

How do I sign the form after filling it?

To sign it yourself, add a signature image made with the E-Signature Maker. If someone else needs to sign, send it with SignWith and they sign from any device.

Need someone else to sign it?

Upload a PDF, sign it yourself or send it to others, and get a signed copy with a full record. 3 free documents every month, no card needed.
